Medical malpractice, also known as medical negligence, occurs when a doctor, nurse, hospital, or other health care professional fails to properly diagnose and/or treat a medical or psychological condition. Health care professionals must abide by the reasonable standard of care adhered to by others in their community. When they fail to do so, they have committed medical malpractice.
